1- A Con named Victor Lustig sold the Eiffel Tower twice in the 1920s! Lusting managed to persuade two persons to buy the tower telling them that it is being sold off for scrap metal. He took $70,000 from his first victim, but was never caught or punished.

2- During cold weather, Eiffel Tower shrinks by about six inches and is said to extend during summer.

3- In 2007, an American woman named Erika married the Eiffel Tower to express her love to it. She later changed her name legally to reflect the bond to be named Erika La Tour Eiffel.

4- The Repainting the tower that happens every seven years consumes 60 tons of paint. It is only painted manually by hand and bucket as no mechanical painting is allowed.

5- There are over 30 replicas of the Eiffel Tower around the world. One is located in Las Vegas in the United States of America and another is at the Window of the World theme park in Shenzhen, China.

6- The Tower made its way to Guinness records as the world’s biggest advertisement board when the French car manufacturer Citroen used it as a giant billboard between 1925 and 1934. A quarter of a million light bulbs were used to write the company’s name on the tower.

7- The tower sways around six to seven centimeters in the wind.

8- An inventor named Franz Reichelt died after jumping off the Eiffel Tower while testing a parachute he designed himself.

9- Several aviators flew aircrafts under the arches of the tower but unluckily, in 1926 Leon Collet was killed after a failed attempt.

10- It is illegal to take a picture of the tower at night. In 1989, a French court ruled that lighting displays projected from the Tower are an “original visual creation” protected by copyright.
