Designed as the centerpiece of the 1889 Universal Exposition, the Eiffel Tower in Paris is one of the world’s most iconic landmarks and has become a popular tourist attraction attracting nearly seven million visitors each year.

There is a lot of exciting information that some people may not know about this most famous metal structure in the world.

– The metal tower contracts in the winter and expands in the summer, allowing the tower to change its size throughout the year. The height of the Eiffel Tower can change by up to 15 cm.

– At the top of the tower, architect Gustave Eiffel built a private apartment where he could conduct experiments and entertain distinguished visitors. Thomas Edison was one of his most prominent guests.

The office offers one of the best vantage points of the tower, but has been closed to visitors for many years.

– Despite the fact that the Eiffel Tower is named after Gustave Eiffel, he is not responsible for designing the structure.

The tower was actually designed by two senior engineers who worked for his company – Maurice Koechlin and Emile Nogier.

The two architects collaborated with French architect Stephen Souvestre to make the structure more aesthetic.

– The landmark is at its most attractive at night when it is illuminated by golden light glowing from lamps set within the tower’s frame. Since 2000, the tower has featured a dazzling light show.

Every night, from sunset until one a.m., a lighthouse light is cast in a 360-degree rotation, and the lights shine for five minutes.

– For those who want to get perfect photos of themselves with the Eiffel Tower in the background, there are two options: Across the river from the Eiffel Tower, Place du Trocadero offers a great vantage point. Near the tower, the Champ de Mars allows tourists to take photos next to the monument or a little further away, depending on where in the park the shots are taken.
