Travelling around with your pet on vacations is quite fun, but choosing the right crate for your pet can ensure him having a nice and fun travel too. They can keep your pet safe in a hotel too and they are available at most pet supply stores. Check the following tips on how to choose the perfect travel crate for your pet.
The crate must be large enough to allow your pet to stand without hitting his head, turn and lie down easily in it.
Make sure that crate is strong enough and has handles and grips while being free of interior protrusions.
The bottom of the crate must be leak-proof and covered with an absorbent material, while ventilation must be placed on opposing sides.
Make sure the crate has “Live Animal” label on it in addition to place for writing the owner’s name, address and phone number.
Put a comfortable mat inside the crate and you can also put your pet’s favorite toy.
Make sure there’s nothing in the crate that can harm your pet like leashes and loose collars that could present a strangling hazard.
Don’t present the crate to your pet as if it is a prison; open the door and show it to your pet and let him go into it on his own. When he’s inside and comfortable, you can close the door.
To train your pet, put him in and come back in 15 minutes. This will ease the dog’s separation anxiety next time you crate him but don’t take him out of the crate.
